A freelance artist since 1997, Marvin has worked on some of the largest brands in the world such as Transformers, GI Joe, Barbie and Star Wars. His list of clients include Hasbro, Mattel, Marvel Entertainment, DC Comics, Dreamworks LLC., 20th Century Fox, National Geographic, Lucasfilm and Lucas Licensing.
Born in the Philippines, Marvin and his family moved to Canada at age 10. His passion for art began at an early age. His artistic influences range from Frank Frazetta, Luis Royo, Salvador Dali, Masamune Shirow, and H.R. Giger.
Marvin has participated in many group art exhibitions. His first titled 'Artistic Diversity in Youths Harmony' opened at The Metro Hall in downtown Toronto.
After graduating high school in 1996, he helped form a mural company: Homo Air Ectus, Inc. and was nominated for the YTV Award for Outstanding Works. In the same year he joined the art house Shockstudios, illustrating and building up his portfolio while learning about the Graphic Novel industry. This lead him to a stint with Interad Media Design Corp where he helped develop art assets and interactive media for the web.
In early May 1997, Marvin joined Draxhall Jump Studios. Working in-house as a colorist and freelance artist. During that same year he applied to the Canadian Business College to study Multimedia.
For over 9 years Marvin worked as the head colorist for the studio which later incorporated and changed it's name to Draxhall Jump Entertainment. Although his primary work was coloring, he has also provided his design, illustration services and helped develop intellectual properties. Some samples of his work can be found on the CGI show 'Transformers: Beast Machines', the 'G.I. Joe: Spy Troops' movie, Season 3 of 'Doc' starring Billy Ray Cyrus, and 'Carl2' for Teletoon.
In late March 2006, Marvin decided it was time to pursue on his own vision and www.marvinmariano.com was born.
As a freelance artist he has continued on working for Hasbro and Mattel. He is presently working with an independant publisher: Kool Press, which produces a line of childrens books and graphic novels. It's sister publishing company: Kosmic Comics produces entertaining comics/graphic novels.
Marvin's work doesn't stop there. Currently he is storyboarding and collaborating with independent filmmaker Peter McGennis, Jr. on his feature film, Buffalo Bushido, slated for 2008 release.
In addition, Marvin has been steadily running TAATS. An airbrushing and tattooing company since 2004 along with his cousin, Robert dela Cruz. Together they established the 'Toronto Tattoo School' in September 2007, a first of it's kind in Canada.
